Arakan Watch, March 30, 2023:
Military State Administration Council has imposed cafew in Maungdaw District and some other Townships of Arakan State, Burma on March 29 2023, applying the Section 144 of Myanmar Panel Code, according to a closer person to authority in condition of anonymity.
The carfew ordered the people movement restriction at night from 9pm to 6am, while the military claims that there are security measures in the Townships of Maundaw, Buthidaung, Rathedaung, Pinngyone, Kyauktaw, Ann, Minbya and Myebon, he further confirmed.
During the time of war in between military and Arakan Army (AA), the carfew was introduced but there is no war under ceasefire agreement in last 4 months.
But, the military is continuing the application of Section 144 of Burma Security Act to take arbitrary action against anybody in any condition, said a local resident.
Current carfew may has backdoor intention and that may result to unexpected tension or danger in the region, another resident claimed.
He also said that military has been disconnecting electricity in Maundaw District at about 9pm from the beginning of Ramadan which simply a clear disturbance for the believers of Islam who perform prayers at night.
In such electricity disconnections and carfew Imposes are very fearful and both acts are seriously problematic for the residences of the region. ##
