Malaysia holds strong position on Myanmar by stressing the importance of Myanmar fulfilling its responsibilities as an Asean member and implementing the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) to help address the prolonged crisis in the country.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan conveyed the position of Malaysia during a courtesy call by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) president Mirjana Spoljaric.
“Discussions focused on the increasingly challenging global humanitarian situation, including developments in Myanmar and the need to ensure that humanitarian assistance can continue to reach those in need,” the statement read.
Regarding the stance of Malaysia, Abdul Kudus, the Executive Director of Arakan Watch express his sincere gratitude towards Malaysia’s engagement with Myanmar military with constructive ways which could be able to find a pathway to have a comprehensive durable solution for the Rohingya.
I believe that this is the right time for Malaysia to share the burden of Rohingya refugees of Malaysia with global resettlement countries to ensure safer homes while a big numbers of Malaysians don’t want the Rohingya in Malaysia, he further said.
Since 1980s, Rohingya refugees in Malaysia have struggling to survive in Malaysia through working in 3D (Dirty, Dangerous and Difficult) sectors with inadequate wages which may be considered as modern day salvation. Therefore, we appeal the world to kindly free the Rohingya refugees of Malaysia from their sub-human live., Abdul added.
During the meeting, the ICRC president also invited Malaysia to be represented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the High-Level Conference on Humanitarian Issues in War, which will be held in Jordan on Dec 7 at the invitation of Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
