BURMESE MILITARY STILL IN ASEAN REGIONAL MEETS

Arakan Watch, September 3, 2023:

Brutal Burmese Military is still honored by ASEAN countries, even after global pressure inserts for urgent democratic changes and full respect of human rights.

Military Council’s Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan arrived back in Rangoon after attending the 7th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS-7) and related meetings held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 30 August to 2 September.

According to reliable sources, another military Minister also joined in military Delegation, led by Director-General U Tun Myint Oo of the Sports and Physical Education Department participated in the 14th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS-14) and related meetings from 27 August to 2 September.

Sources confirmed that both ministers have concluded their missions and return to Burma with honor.

A human rights defender from Arakan puts a comment that such facilitation towards brutal military in regional ministerial meetings will not show positive roads towards human security in the country and thus ASEAN should review it’s policies on Burma for the best interests of the region and humanity. ##
