Every year June 20 is marked as World Refugee Day by refugees across the world with a view to having a durable solution by rebuilding lives in peace and dignity.
As of today, over 2 million Rohingya are spending their lives as refugees in various parts of the world, particularly in Bangladesh 1,300,000+, India 50,000+, Nepal 200, Sri Lanka 50, Pakistan 350,000, Middle-east 500,000+, Thailand 10,000, Malaysia 150,000+, Indonesia 2000+ and etc. without adequate protection and fundamental rights.
All of them were inhumanely exterminate and wiped out to various countries by brutal Burmese military and extremist Buddhist mobs in order to succeeding its genocide and ethnic cleansing agenda, while Quasi-Civilian Government of Burma has forcibly taken over 140,000 Rohingya into a squalid condition at Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) Camp in Sittwe Township, the capital city of Arakan (Rakhine) State with similar intention.
It is very clear that most of the countries of Rohingya’s refuge are neither party of 1951 UN Refugee Convention nor its 1967 Protocol for the Status of Refugees. Therefore, they are being victimized in various means of slavery, exploitation, discrimination, while they have to face traumatic troubles in their daily lives with constant arrest, detention, deportation, unfair prosecutions, restriction on their education, health care, livelihoods, family development, employment, income generations, sustainability, skilled and quality improvement, assembly on movement, free advocacy and human rights activism, engagement to work on their own people in line with diplomacy and comprehensive.
In addition, the voices and concerns of genuine victims are being undermined and then no chance to join in any decision making process are given to the Rohingya refugees in any country of their asylum, while they are compelled to comply ready-made resolutions which are not fit or suitable to their issues at all.
In this regard, the Coalition of Rohingya Organizations in Malaysia (CROM) is firmly believed that no solution could be brought without proper process which must be consisting of Rohingya refugees’ participation in decision making process, consultation, dialogues to enhance peace and trust building on safety, dignity and fundamental human rights of Rohingya refugees.
Therefore, CROM would like to request the United Nations Agencies, European Union, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and all members of world bodies and concerned quarters:-
- To enhance a fresh process for inclusiveness of entire Rohingya civil society organizations in negotiation and decision making process for the best of Rohingya and the world;
- To introduce faster durable solution mechanism in order to stopping exploitation that may bring hatred to Rohingya population in exile and threat to the region;
- To disqualify the leaked report prepared by ASEAN’s Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ASEAN-ERAT), which reflects the disingenuous scheme of the Myanmar authorities for Rohingya refugee repatriation and their attitude towards Rohingya people;
- To enhance effective engagement to stop Myanmar from her continuous atrocious process against Rohingya and to address the root cause of the Rohingya crisis towards finding a permanent solution;
- To actively support the credible accountability efforts to ensure victims see justice served and the cycle of violence is not repeated, so as to ensure voluntary safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of all refugees with their full Myanmar citizenship, within a specified time, to their original places in Arakan (Rakhine) State, not to displacement sites.
