A teenage boy hailing from Rohingya community was subjected to severe physical attack and left in an unconscious state by Rakhine shopkeepers in a marketplace on 20 April.
On Thursday at around 2pm, one Shafi Ullah S/O. Abdur Rahim, 17 years old boy, a 17 years old water carrier, went to the market place at Taung Pyo , for collecting dues from some Rakhine shopkeepers who owed him money. But instead of paying him the money, shopkeepers fell on him and brutally beat him up unabated before he fell unconscious.
The victim was rushed to nearby local hospital by Rohingyas at the spot but they refused to treat him. An eyewitness denying to disclose his identity has confirmed the incidence. “Most of the hospitals in the state refuses admission of Muslim patients discriminately “, the source said.
Shafi was later crossed the border to Bangladesh for medical treatment secretly, told Arakan Watch correspondent by his family. He regained consciousness a day later and is still in a critical condition. This is the real picture of majority Buddhists treating minority Rohingya patients in the state, a common practice that apparently violates the Geneva Declaration of Medical Ethics.
