Arakan Watch: Kuala Lumpur, March 15, 2023: A two day long national Peace Conference is ended today at Asia-Europe Institute of University Malaya.
The conference highlighted various issues, especially Southeast Asia is sandwiched between the US and China rivalry and experiencing the global effects of the Russian-Ukraine war, but it has also become a much more attractive destination for investors.
However, unfortunately, the region is still home to several unresolved conflicts and disputes in multiple countries; the Myanmar 2021 military coup, the ongoing Southern Thailand conflict as well as Southern Philippines continue to be an issue.
The discourse of peace and regional peace to be more specific is pertinent. This conference is hoped to contribute to the national discourse on regional conflicts affecting Malaysia and the way forward beyond the angle of hard security.
This conference is a collaboration between IMAN Research, Universiti Malaya (Department of International and Strategic Studies at Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Asia Europe Institute) and Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM)
