Arakan Watch, May 5, 2023:
A 4 year old minor Buddhist Rakhine child was killed by bomb explosion at Wet Kyein village of Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, Burma/Myanmar, according to Maung Chit, who saw the child in the same village.
The child is identified as Maung Pai Wai, son of U Min Thaung and Daw Nyu Sa who belongs to Buddhist Rakhine (Arakanese) family from Wet Kyein Village, Maungdaw Township, he further said.
According to another source who declined to mention his name, the boy was playing near the front stairs of his house on May 4, 2023 at about 4pm. The child found a buried bomb and took it and then tried to open the key with his teeth, while carrying to his house. At the door step, the device exploded, where the child died on the spot.
Source added that this bomb either belong to Arakan Army or Burmese military as both soldiers stationed at that village for a short period at the time their war in between in November 2022.
Regarding this incident, no report of investigation from any authority is heard yet, while no department is eager to take responsibility. ##
