Addressing a high-level side event co-hosted by Bangladesh on the sidelines of the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, U.N. Special Envoy on Myanmar Julie Bishop delivered an urgent call for international action on the Rohingya crisis.<\/p>\n
Nearly a decade after the mass forced displacements of 2017, over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees remain stranded in Bangladesh, where the world\u2019s largest refugee camp is located in Cox\u2019s Bazar. An entire generation of children, with over 30,000 born annually, now only knows displacement as their reality.<\/p>\n
In reality, every quarter is busy with the issue of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, which keeping unprecedented challenges facing by Rohingya refugees in Malaysia in-focused.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At present, more than 30% of Rohingya refugees in Malaysia have undergone to unemployment, while many don’t dare to find jobs or to access for heath care facilities under open and publicly anti-Rohingya sentiment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rohingya refugees in Malaysia are neither able to express their thoughts nor open up their voices as every quarter’s eye is on them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the address, Bishop commended Bangladesh for carrying an \u201cextraordinary responsibility\u201d while warning that shrinking humanitarian funding threatens life-saving assistance, including food, healthcare, and protection services for women and girls facing gender-based violence, while emphasizing that humanitarian aid alone cannot resolve the crisis, but the issue of Rohingya in Malaysia remains unmentioned.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, the Rohingya refugees in Malaysia are expecting for a comprehensive move of the United Nations Agencies to address their plight in the global forums in order to ensure a safer as they are neither in position to return to their country of origin, Myanmar nor feeling safe in Malaysia.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rohingya also welcome the highlight of Bishop that the alarming human toll of the ongoing stalemate, citing sharp increases in human trafficking, forced conscription, and perilous maritime migration attempts across the Bay of Bengali.\u00a0<\/p>\n
