Committee on the Rohingya under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called on Burma\/Myanmar to address the Conflict and restore legitimate rights of Rohingya in Burma.<\/p>\n
H.E. Mr. Daouda Jallow, Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Republic of The Gambia, on Friday, 17 March 2023 has chaired an open-ended meeting the OIC Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on Accountability for Human Rights Violations against the Rohingya on the sidelines of the 49th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, where the Chairman of the Committee gave a briefing on the latest developments related to the case against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice on the Rohingya.<\/p>\n
H.E. Mr. Hissein BrahimTaha, the Secretary-General noted that the OIC will continue its efforts to mobilize international support to find a lasting solution to this complex crisis and defend the rights and interests of the Rohingya and will work to promote dialogue and cooperation with key international actors to address the underlying causes of this crisis.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, all participants unanimously urged Myanmar to address the fundamental causes of this conflict, restore the legitimate rights of Rohingya Muslims, fully comply with the court’s order and take all measures to prevent acts of genocide from being committed against them.<\/p>\n
In the Ministerial Committee, the OIC Secretary-General reiterated the OIC’s firm position in support of the Rohingya, while repeatedly call Myanmar to ensure their safety and security, recognize their fundamental rights, including the right to citizenship, and create conditions conducive to the voluntary, safe, dignified, and sustainable return of Rohingya refugees and internally displaced persons to their homeland.<\/p>\n
The participants commended the generous contributions made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the special account opened to cover legal fees related to the Rohingya issue.##<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
