Arakan Watch: March 16, 2023: An excellent photo exhibition of Mr. David Verberckt titled: “Burmese Minorities, An Endless Oppression”, was successfully launched at the KL Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall today.
David’s body of work is a result of his extensive travels to Myanmar’s borderland States of Chin, Rakhine, Kachin and Kayin; in government-controlled areas and ethnic armed groups-controlled territory; to try to understand, access and visualise the country’s never-ending ethnic conflicts.
During exhibition time, Mr. David has made comprehensive explanation on his works, slides and experiences, while a panel discussion was held very resourcefully with the moderation Ms. Samranjit Kaur for panelists Mr. Charles Santiago, former MP and Chairman of ASEAN Parliamentarian for Human Rights, Ms. Kasthuri Patto, former Malaysian MP and president of Religious Freedom and Mr. David, the photographer.
All the panelists expressed their serious concerns on the issue of refugees, Burma crisis and especially the Rohingya.
Panelists expressed some proposals on peaceful democratic transaction in Burma.
In this event at least 150 people participated which includes various human rights experts, activists, UNHCR, community members and social networking people.
The exhibition is co-organised by the Youth Wing of the KL Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall and Beyond Borders Malaysia. It is supported by the Belgian Embassy and the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights.##
