The police detained 21 persons in a drive at a Rohingya refugee camp last night at Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar.
Five foreign doctors detained earlier. They were taken to the police station and released after taking undertakings from them.
The police operation began at 6:00pm and ended at 8:00pm.
Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Nikaruzzaman said, “The drive was to check the overall condition of the camps and to look into suspicious activities. No one is allowed at the refugee camps after 5:00pm. Four British and one Chinese citizen breached this rule. They had no permission from the authorities”.
There are 11 Bangladeshi among the 21, and the rest are Rohingyas.
UNO Nikaruzzaman said 10 have been given prison sentences ranging from seven days to 6 months.
The Rohingyas were guilty of carrying Bangladeshi passports while the other six Bangladeshis of hoarding relief material.
The remaining 11 have been shifted to the Ukhia police station.
Additional police super of the Ukhia circle district police, Sailao Marma confirmed the incident.
Cox’s Bazar district additional magistrate Khaled Mahmud four executive magistrates of the district administration, the UNO of Ukhia, members of the police and Ansar, conducted the drive.
